Versatile, exclusive and world-renowned
When Lech am Arlberg was chosen in year 2004 as the “loveliest village in Europe," this was official confirmation for the roughly 1600 residents that they were living on one of the prettiest spots in the world. Lech is located at 1444 m elevation and has a history going back about 700 years, and in less than a century was changed from a mountain agricultural community into a world-renowned tourism destination. The residents of Lech still maintain their old traditions and try to harmonize new developments in consonance with nature. So as only one of a few large ski resorts, Lech succeeded in maintaining its village character and in preserving its ambience as a concise village settlement. The majestic alpine landscape, the unmistakable harmony and typical architecture and also the hospitable athletic atmosphere make Lech into a destination for people around the world in search of rest and relaxation.

Lech am Arlberg belongs among the exclusive “cradles of downhill skiing” because this is where the first ski courses were held back in 1906. The fabulous snowy landscape of yesteryear still exists today, together with the inventive spirit: The first tow lift, the first cable car designed for winter operation or the first heated chair lift – all were first taken into operation on the Arlberg!
According to the principle: “Better to have less – but only of the best quality,” Lech retains an exclusive reputation in tourism and allows athletes, leisure visitors and nature lovers equally to enjoy a vacation dream.
