That’s why the impressive number of bottles from renowned châteaux reflects the finest quality of these famous French vineyards. But lovers of Italian and Austrian wines will also find what they’re looking for in the exceptionally extensive wine list at the Hotel Auriga. Wine connoisseur Ingo Strolz relies on glasses crafted with the highest level of artisanal skill when serving fine wines—hand-blown, flawless, and delicate creations that are cared for with the utmost attention. Since 1756, the Riedel Glassworks has been producing wine glasses and decanters that optimally showcase the character of the wine. Whether champagne, light white wine, or full-bodied red wine: the appropriate shape, thin walls, and faceted rim ensure a unique drinking experience.

Interesting Facts from the World of Wine

Flower

The term “noble, delicate, or refined bouquet” refers to the pleasant aroma or scent of wine, which unfolds only when served in the appropriate glass. The frequently used term “bouquet” also refers to this olfactory impression.

Decanting

Decant the wine into a carafe to separate it from the sediment. Older French red wines, in particular, tend to develop sediment, though this does not indicate a decline in quality.

Tasting

A term used to describe a wine tasting. First, the wine is examined visually to assess its color. Next, it is smelled to determine its bouquet. Finally, its character and flavor are evaluated as it is tasted.

Jeroboam

A large bottle with a capacity of 4.5 or 5 liters, used for bottling Bordeaux wine. Burgundy is also sold in 6-liter "Methuselah" bottles, and less commonly in 9-liter "Salmanazar" and 12-liter "Balthazar" bottles.

Storage

Wine should be stored at a constant temperature, ideally between 12 and 17° C. Alternatively, wine refrigerators with different temperature zones are ideal.

Sommelier

The French term for a highly trained wine server who has been trained at a sommelier school. He advises guests on selecting wines that pair perfectly with their meal.
